Its officially offical. Shilo’s got the cancer.

Checked my voice mail and got some good/bad news.

Bad news:  Shilo has bone cancer.  They told me the scientific name but I can’t spell it.

Good new: Its the ‘right’ cancer to be included in the trial.. so she’ll be admitted and get the cancer drug on her next visit.

So Shilo is officially a dog of science!  Yay?

  1. Yeah, on this journey and on this site…that’s a YAY!!

Shilo this IS going to work!

Paul, did they suggest any special home cooked meals, supplements, etc…or just low/no carb.?

You’re a good “science dog” Shilo! And a very pretty one at that!

    Paws crossed!

  2. Well, yeah that IS good (isn’t it weird the things we celebrate when we’re coping with cancer?!). I’m sorry it’s official but at least something good will come out of it. Hugs to you and Shilo.

And yes, we’d love to hear details about what they’re requiring as far as diet, supplements, etc.

  3. Is it odd to say congratulations!

I guess in this case it is acceptable 🙂

Here’s hoping Shilo helps to prove that this drug can BEAT cancer!

    Many hugs

  4. The vets at UPenn didn’t seem to have much of an opinion when I said I was going to switch Shilo to a low carb wet food rather than keep her on the grain free dry. They gave the standard ‘switch slowly over about a week’ spiel.

There is some real science behind the ‘carbs feed cancer’ thing and the cost of a low carb wet food for just Shilo is not a huge extra cost.

Plus Shilo was always a picky eater. I’m just glad she eats the wet food (I had a feeling she would like wet better than kibble) so she has her strength and doesn’t go a day or two without eating.
