Saying good bye to Shilo the Science dog.

It’s that time.  Shilo’s is just having to much trouble breathing.  Appointment made for 10am 4/10 at UPenn for the final visit.

Shilo was a stray and I happily took her in.  She was a good dog, even if she was the best escape artist ever.  I will miss her just as much as I miss my other dogs.

Taz, Sugar Bear, Pepper and TJ and Shilo will all be waiting for me.

  1. I am so sorry you are having to go through this…you are not alone. You are giving Shilo the most selfless gift possible, although it hurts and, to put it simply, it sucks.
We will be thinking of you and Shilo on 4/10 and sending you prayers for courage and strength.

  2. Paul, my heart hurts for you. I am so very, very sorry to know you are in this place with Shilo. It’s a tough, tough situation.

Never forget that she has been completely amazing and inspawrational, you both have. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey with her (and TJ of course), she and you will always be a part of this community. If there is anything we can do to help you through your grief, please let us know OK?

Hugs to you both. Please tell Shilo we love her and will never, ever forget her beautiful life and spirit. TJ and your other fur kids will be waiting, along with all our Tripawd heroes.

    xoxo

  3. I am so sorry you are going down this road. It is the road that you find yourself suddenly speeding along and are not real sure how you got there so fast. It is hard, it is sad, it is one of the hardest, most selfless things you will ever do. To release our pups from their struggle and take on sadness ourselves so they can be free. May all of your wonderful memories of Shilo help you through your grief. That and U.S., we are here for support. It was a tremendous help for me when I lost my boy. Hugs, Lori, Ty and gang

  4. So sorry for your impending loss of your sweet girl……You took her in and gave her the best life possible. Like Jerry said, this is always the worst when we reach the end of this awful journey, but never forget all the days of happy times and memories, that is what is most important. Shilo will always be remembered here, always.

Keeping you and Shilo in my thoughts,
    Bonnie and Angel Polly

  5. Saying goodbye is hard enough.. even more so when your pup is in pain.. but still gives you a wag of the tail or slicks your hand…. I so want to think that THAT is the turning point and she will be better.

But I know its not. Tonight I’ll be on the couch by my Shilo for one last night.

  6. I am so sorry that Shilo is going to cross the bridge tomorrow. It very much sucks. I know that she will be with good babies on the bridge and many will be there to greet her.
You are giving the greatest gift we can give. I know it doesn’t make it any easier.

My thoughs & prayers are with you

    Hugs

  7. Oh Paul, my heart just breaks for you. Words cannot begin to espress how sorry I am.

To say we’ve all been where you are is one thing, but very, very few can say they lost two beloved dogs to this piece of crap disease in a short time…..just friggin unfair and cruel. April last year was when I had to make the decision to release my Happy Hannah and Lori had to make the decision for Ty. I can guarantee you they will be there greeting Shilo right along with TJ, Taz, Sugar Bear and Pepper. They will have a welcome wagon full of cookies and ice cream snd lots of steak!! They will show Shilo all around and they will frolic non stop in lush fields of green and drink water from cyrstal clear blue lakes.

Perhaps Shilo will rally tonight and feel better in the a.m.

REGARDLESS, you are together now! Your love for Shilo is sooo strong you will be able surround her with joy and happiness and celebration for a life well lived! The gut wrenching grief can come later…now is all that matters. Now is the time to let nothing rob you lf your sacred time together. Shilo is not worrying about a thing. She KNOWS she is with you and she KNOWS she always will be. She’s not afraid to leave a body that no longer serves her. She KNOWS you love her enough to give her that gift.

Paul, please stay connected. As you know, you are surrounded by an extended family that understands like no others can.

Shilo is our hero here! She, nor TJ, will NEVER be forgotten.

Give her some extra treats and snuggles from me tonight.

Surrounding you with love and support,

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle

  8. Paul,

I am so, so sorry it has come to this already. I know you have looked into Shilo’s eyes and have seen that she is ready to leave this earthly plane. Its true, you are giving her the most selfless gift you can, you are ready and able to help her leave her broken body. There is no greater gift. Really.

Sending you all our love and strength, we’ll be holding you and Shilo in our hearts tomorrow, and forever,

Martha, Codie Rae and the OP

  9. Paul,

My heart breaks for you today as you say “farewell” to Shilo.

    Run Free you beautiful girl

    Many hugs

    Linda and Tucker

  10. our hearts break with yours.. you know that.. cause we have been where you are..
but one thing you have to remind yourself is… this is the last, most loving, gift that we give our furkids when they are no longer having fun here on this adventure. She has so many of our furkids waiting for her.. she will not be alone.. and neither will you. You have her in yoru heart.. always will… nothing takes that away….

she knows she has had the best life with you.. and she will be bragging when she gets to the Bridge about you.. I am sure of that!

Christine.. with Franklin in her heart♥
